Goderich-Besuch
description
Zusammenfassung
A very rainy Saturday took us to the "Prettiest Town in Canada" Goderich where we took a tour of the Historic Gaol. Complete with rain, hail and wind, the tour had a very eerie feel.
The jail was constructed between 1839 and 1842 using stone from the Maitland River Valley and from Michigan. The octagonal jail was designed by Thomas Young, modelled after Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon design for prison construction, common in mid-19th century Britain and North America.
