There are two rows of men, the back row is standing and the front row is kneeling on the ground with a wall in the background. All but two of the men are wearing hockey equipment and sweaters with RAF printed in the middle. The man on the right end of the back row is wearing an RAF uniform and the man at the left end of the back row is wearing a fedora and coat. During World War II, Goderich Airport hosted No. 12 Elementary Flying Training School for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, providing initial pilot training for aircrews using the Fleet Finch.[3]No. 12 EFTS opened on October 14, 1940 and closed on July 14, 1944.
